For the 6th year in running, Singapore Maritime Academy (SMA) has won the prestigious Lloyd's List Maritime Asia Award 2007 under the Training and Crewing award category for its outstanding contribution in the area of training and education in the maritime industry.

In the past, SMA was bestowed the following awards:
Best Seafarer Training Award (2000 and 2002), the same award was renamed as Lloyd's List Youth Development Award, in 2004, 2005 and 2006.

Director SMA, Mr Roland Tan received the award from Mr James Snowdon, Lloyd's Ship Manager at the Maritime Asia Awards 2007 Ceremony held on 15 November in Hong Kong which was attended by many eminent industrialists from the international maritime and shipping community. Mr Tan said, "It's a great honour for SMA to once again be awarded the prestigious Lloyd's List Asia award - this time for "Training and Crewing". This award is for an individual, firm or institution that has shown initiative, leadership and imagination in the crucial area of training and education. I must also attribute our standing to the strong support of our Singapore Polytechnic senior management and the maritime industry and the hard work of our staff, alumni and students."

Three other finalists of this award were Bumi Armada Bhd, Eurasia Ship Management and the Malaysia Maritime Academy. The four finalists in the Training and Crewing category were chosen through two phases. Nominations are sought from individual companies or organisations or from firms or individuals who deserve special credit for their contribution to the maritime industry.
