Jasmine Ong was the only Singaporean to make it into the finals of a recent international toy design contest.
School of Media & Info-Communications Technology student Jasmine Ong made history recently. She was the only Singaporean to make it into the final list of 15 people whose trexi designs were picked after an online international contest.
There were over 4,000 entries from 17 countries for the 'A Better Tomorrow' toy design contest organised by Coca-Cola and local toy manufacturer Play Imaginative, creators of the trexi designer figure.
Jasmine's three-inch, little devil Sir PUN-Ster was chosen after a two-month online voting early this year.
On how she got started, Jasmine related that she submitted a trexi design for the trexi series 03 selection last year. "I did not think much of it at that time as I was not a fanatical vinyl toy fan. But when I got a call from one of my lecturers informing me that my design had been chosen for trexi series 03, I sat up and took notice of the world of trexi and vinyl toys.
Inspired by her success, the final-year student intends to create more designs and be recognised in the vinyl world. "I also want to be exposed to more designers and their style and gain a unique style of my own," she added.
