2014 Highlights

On 17 July 2014, Chernis Low Guai Mun shared her DPCS experience with students of CHIJ St Nicholas Girls' School and heightened the perception of DPCS as a science-based course.
The immense passion for the course was naturally exuded by our students who voluntarily hosted the course facility tours at the Perfumery and Cosmetic Science Centre on the ‘Marvels of Applied Sciences’ event held on 28 June 2014.
The recent course review by Professor Mark Moloney, University of Oxford was encouraging, which once again affirmed the quality of the course delivery for the benefits of DPCS students.
Two third year students Lai Yi Ping and Lum Hui Ling had a rewarding experience at the Josai University in Japan under the dedicated guidance of Associate Professor Hiroaki Todo.
Three third year students Sarah Ng Yen Yi, Peh Jie Xuan and Gabrielle Lim Jia Xuan joined the Diploma in International Business students to explore Vietnam and gained valuable global perspectives on the impact of cultures and economics on consumer behaviour.

7 January 2014 marked the opening of the Perfumery and Cosmetic Science Centre (PCSC). We were honoured to have Ms Thien Kwee Eng (left), Assistant Director of EDB to inaugurate the centre, together with SP PCEO, Mr Tan Choon Shian. Some highlights of the day include the unveiling of [email protected] scent as well as the MOU signing ceremony with our key industry partners in their respective domain disciplines: Procter & Gambler Singapore Innovation Centre, Lubrizol Southeast Asia, Nuance Watson and Institute of Chemical & Engineering Sciences.

The course was privileged to have invited the CEO and perfumer of Chemarome on 22nd May 2014 to give a seminar to the DPCS students. The Spanish fragrance and flavour company specialises in the design, development and manufacturing of fragrance creations. The students were greatly inspired by the speakers who shared a global perspective and engaging insight of the fragrance business.

The course is thankful for the warm support received from Society of Cosmetic Scientists Singapore (SCSS). For the fourth consecutive years, our students received three bursaries yearly, each valuing with at least $1000 each, from its president Ms Suiniaty Basirun on 24 April 2014 at SP, in conjunction with the SCSS AGM.

The DPCS lecturers were touched by the warm gesture of second cohort of graduates who presented the most endearing gifts, which is a self-made video and a photo album that paid a special tribute to their lecturers’ dedications as well as their meaningful three years’ journey with the course.
The thoughtfulness had indeed warmed the hearts of the teaching team with touching moments that etched deep and long-lasting memories in the lecturers.

Second year DPCS student, Charis Loo Jie Xin went with her lecturer, Ms Low Kang Min to serve in the local community of Nepal. Both returned with a new perspective on life. They were appreciative of the enriching and meaningful experience which has opened up their hearts and minds, leading to their heightening sensitivity to the world around them as they gained greater insight into the importance of servant leadership.

The Strategic Attachment & Training (STRAT) programme is an initiative supported by EDB Singapore with strategic partners in emerging sectors. Procter and Gamble (P&G) is pioneering the training of talents in the personal care industry.
To date, about 15% of our first graduate cohort have embarked on this exciting journey under the professional stewardship of P&G.

"Being the pioneer batch of DPCS students was one of the best choices I've made thus far. The unique curriculum was extremely thoroughly planned out. It gave us theoretical lessons and valuable insights to the fragrance and formulation industries. I wholly enjoyed both my internships from which I learnt many things and was introduced to many wonderful friends. These three years have been an amazing experience and I'm looking forward to the future opportunities this diploma has to offer."
