DEPM Event Industry Night 2013

Singapore Polytechnic, Diploma in Integrated Events & Project Management (DEPM), organised a networking event for representatives and experts of the MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conventions & Exhibitions) and Events industry on 9 October 2013. It was an event to show appreciation for the continuous support provided by the industry, and also to promote SP as a choice institution of talents.

The event was well attended, with more than 35 guests from the industry and 20 academic staff. Some of the VIPs included Mr Edward Liu, Managing Director of Conference & Exhibition Management Services (CEMS) and past president of SACEOS (an association tasked to develop Singapore into an international exhibition and convention hub); as well as Mr Ong Wee Min, an Executive Director at Marina Bay Sands. Other members of the industry included event management companies, association members, and guests from the Singapore Tourism Board. It was indeed a lively networking night as it saw much sharing and exchange of ideas amongst industry representatives and SP staff and students.

There were many programmes lined up that night—from staging a memorable Halloween experience for guests, to showcasing students’ works through exhibitions and posters. Guest speakers such as Mr Edward Liu himself were invited to share on current MICE trends and happenings; while one of our SP alumni returned to provide a speech on their current work experiences.

The event was unique as it was supported by more than 30 DEPM students and lecturers, although it was essentially organised by a group of 4 DEPM students as part of their Integrated Project (IP). The students were involved in preparations and on-site execution of the event.
