| COURSE AIMS |
This is a conversion course that provides a pathway for graduate mechanical engineers to join the lucrative careers of professional marine engineers. The aim of this course is to train engineers holding the Degree in Mechanical Engineering in accordance with the Reg. III/1 of STCW 1978 Convention, as amended in 1995, leading to the Class 5 Marine Engineer Officer Certificate of Competency (for watch-keeping engineering officer on board sea-going merchant vessels), issued by the Maritime and Port Authority (MPA) of Singapore. |

| CAREER PROSPECTS |
This conversion course trains a graduate mechanical engineer to become a competent shipboard marine engineer. He would start as a shipboard junior engineer and could become a chief engineer of a sea-going merchant ship within a short span of 4 to 5 years. He could also be employed ashore as a Marine Technical Superintendent, Marine Surveyor or Senior Manager in the diversified international maritime sector. |

S$5570.00 + 7% GST (S$389.90) = S$5959.90 (Singapore Dollars)
Students are also required to attend the following STCW Basic Safety Training (BST)
short courses to prepare them for the 6 months shipboard cadet training.
The STCW BST consists of:
1. Personal Safety & Social Responsibility (Course Fee: S$150 + 7% GST)
2. Fire Prevention & Fire Fighting (Course Fee: S$350 + 7% GST)
3. Elementary First Aid (Course Fee: S$120 + 7% GST)
4. Personal Survival Techniques Training and Assessment Course
(Course Fee: S$260 + 7% GST) |
| ENTRY REQUIREMENTS |
(i) Minimum entry qualification: Degree in Mechanical Engineering, (ii) MPA Letter of Eligibility (for attending the 22 Weeks GME Course), and (iii) Students must be medically fit as per the MPA Marine Engineering Officers (MEO) medical fitness guidelines.
Prior to joining the course, students must first apply for eligibility to sit for the Class 5 Certificate of Competency Written and Oral Examinations by applying to MPA with all supporting documents.
