The Diploma in Bioengineering (DBEN) course provides a balanced grounding in mechanical engineering and life sciences to develop skills essential to producing viable bioengineering solutions. This multi-disciplinary approach makes the DBEN student a valuable asset to the rapidly advancing biomedical industry.
Making a difference in healthcare
MAE works closely with the Singapore Health Services Pte Ltd, National Healthcare Group and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs) in human interface technology and assistive technology. DBEN students participating in such collaborations get to work closely with doctors and scientists to improve health standards and quality of life for the infirm.
Enriching learning experience
Our collaborative projects impart first-hand knowledge in Human Interface Technology and Assistive Technology. These research and development initiatives may even begin in the first year of the course, leading seamlessly to a career in the burgeoning Bioengineering industry.
Cheng Yunyuan Bernadette Diploma in Bioengineering 2012
When pursuing the Bioengineering diploma at SP, I learned to view projects from different perspectives and implement solutions through a logical and methodical process. The course provided a strong foundation in engineering, human biology and physiology.
The Biomechanics module explained clearly the mechanical principles at work in our bodies and the Current Good Manufacturing Processes (CGMP) provided insight into the regulatory framework governing pharmaceutical products and medical devices.
The MAE lecturers were a motivating team that spared no effort in making lessons interesting. They provided alternative teaching tools, answered queries adequately and encouraged me continually. My final-year project supervisor's resourcefulness was instrumental in bringing innovation and functionality to my project.
I aspire to build a career involving planning, analysis and data evaluation that leads to viable and innovative solutions. SP MAE has taught me to strive for excellence and not settle for mediocrity in achieving my goals.
Ho Xin Wei Samuel DBEN Gold Medallist 2012
SP has given me an education like no other.
I had opportunities to excel not just academically. I was privileged to be appointed captain of the Canoe Polo Team which competed at Taiwan. The enriching SP Scholar and SPOT programmes broadened my perspective of the world around me through exclusive courses aimed at a well-rounded education.
When I encountered problems. I could always approach lecturers and technicians for help without fear of rejection.
My SP experience has nurtured me to become a better individual. I was awarded the A*STAR Undergraduate Scholarship. The valuable research opportunities coincided with my aspiration to a career in research. The knowledge and skills I've acquired at SP would be put to good use when I become a researcher.
I will always remember SP. Thank you for the wonderful times at campus
