What is this course about?

This course aims to equip students with basic diamond product knowledge, communication skills when advising customers on selection of diamond products and learn how to handle and care diamond products. At the end of the course, students should be able to handle sales and enquiries by customers regarding diamond products at a jewellery retail shop.


Suitable for

This course aims to provide people already working or wishing to enter the retail industry with the skills and knowledge required to provide advice on diamond products.


It is suitable for fresh entrants to the retail industry and full-time/part-time retail staff.

Basic spoken and written English


Funding Incentives

Course Fee: $480.00

WDA Funding*: $432.00

Nett Course Fee after WDA Funding: $48 + 7% GST = $51.36 per participant

* Eligibility for WDA Funding:
- Singaporean and PRs (company sponsored or self sponsored)
- Achieve at least 75% attendance
- Complete and pass all required assessments

Singaporeans and Permanent Residents can enjoy a subsidy of 90% under the Skills Program for Upgrading and Resilience (SPUR) scheme offered by WDA.


Course Outline

This course consists of three parts:

a) Diamond Product Knowledge
Students will learn about the 4Cs of diamond grading, terminologies regarding diamond products, types of diamond simulants, how to identify and differentiate diamond and simulants, the factors that affect the value of diamond and how to interpret product labels, diamond certificates and reports.

b) Selection of Diamond Products
Students will learn the various communication skills and how to apply them in real-life situations. They will also learn how to establish customers' requirements on diamond products, how to select diamond products that match customers' requirements, the different ways of presenting the products safely and securely to customers, how to highlight and explain diamond products features and benefits and how to address typical customers' enquiries.

c) Handling and Care of Diamond Products
Students will learn about the consequences of not handling diamond products properly, how to address the typical problems faced by customers, cleaning techniques for diamond products including using cleaning equipment such as ultrasound. They will also have practices on advising customer on handling and care of diamond products, demonstrating cleaning techniques and explaining the types of after-sales services offered by the store.



Mode of Assessment

Assessment methods include role play, case studies, practical demonstration and oral/written questioning.

Certification

A Certificate of Performance will be issued jointly by Singapore Polytechnic and Far East Gemological Institute and also a Statement of Attainment in Provide Advice on Diamond Products from the Singapore Workforce Development Agency.

Participants who are successfully selected for the course will receive confirmation letter via email.

Withdrawal and Deferment

Withdrawal and deferment notice must be made in writing to the Professional & Adult Continuing Education (PACE) Academy via email to cec@sp.edu.sg.For withdrawal cases, the portion of course fee to be refunded is based on the date of notice as follows:

· 2 weeks before the commencement of the course - Full refund
· Less than 2 weeks before commencement of the course - 70% refund
· On or after date of commencement - No refund

The Singapore Polytechnic reserves the right to cancel or postpone any of the courses. Applicants will be duly notified and where applicable, the full fees will be refunded.

The Singapore Polytechnic also reserves the right to amend the fees charged or the period and duration of the courses.
