COURSE AIMS The Combined Class 1 & 2 (Deck Officers) course will lead to the issue of Class 1 & 2 Certificate of Competency (CoC), issued by the Maritime & Port Authority (MPA) of Singapore, upon successful completion of written examinations at SMA and oral examinations at MPA.
RECOGNITION Courses meet the requirements of STCW Convention of IMO.

Admission for April 2016 batch is open only for ex-COC3 students and Singapore Citizens/PRs.

Other students may enroll for October 2016 batch.

Registration for October 2016 batch will commence in May 2016.

Administrative Fee: $50 + 7% GST for Registration

Tution Fee:

For 2015 -  *S$8,660 + 7% GST

For 2016 - *S$9,520 + 7% GST

Payable on approval of Student Pass by Immigration and Checkpoint Authority(ICA)).

The course fee covers the main course, written examinations and the 'Navigation Control Course'.


Candidates need to pay for following other mandatory courses:
1. Shipboard Training & Assessment Course
2. Medical Care On-board
3. Advanced Fire-Fighting**

4. ECDIS Course

5. BRM (Management Level) and Leadership and Team-working skill.

MA2024 Cargo work
MA2026 Maritime Law & Personnel Management
MA2027 Meteorology
MA2028 Compass
MA2029 Ship Stability
MA2030 Ship Construction
Sea Service Requirements
36 months from Class 3 or watch keeping level to Class 1; or 12 months from Class 3 to Class 2 and 24 months thereafter; or 12 months after Class 2, if sailed as chief officer immediately after Class 2, otherwise sea service is pro-rated.

Application forms for the course can also be obtained from "Forms" listed under "Admission". Applicants need to forward a copy of passport, and return address together with the application. 
All original certificates (including short courses) and sea service records must be produced during enrolment for verification. 
Step 1: 

Student submits completed application form together with Administrative fees.

Step 2:

About 2 to 3 months prior to commencement of the course, SMA will apply for Student Pass at ICA website to generate a SOLAR (Student's Pass On-line Application & Registration) number. 

Step 3:

This SOLAR number and accompanying instructions from ICA website will be forwarded to the student via email by SMA.

SMA will verify if the above step has been completed and Student Pass has been cleared by ICA. 

Admission to this course is subject to candidates obtaining a 'Student Pass' by 'Immigration and Checkpoint Authority' (ICA) of Singapore. 

Following the instruction from SMA and ICA, it is not necessary for applicants to apply for entry permit from the Singapore High Commission or Embassy in your country. 
The Singapore Polytechnic does not maintain hostel facilities. Private apartments are available in the vicinity of the campus and rooms are rented out at approx. S$400 a month twin-sharing. Daily expenses are estimated to be about S$10.00 per day

Candidates are required to take up the insurance during their stay in Singapore. Estimated Cost: S$50.


SMA will assist in visa application for candidates' spouse and children upon submission of air ticket and medical insurance for spouse & children.
