The Diploma in Civil Engineering with Business (DCEB), formerly known as Civil Engineering & Management is a broad-based and multi-disciplinary course that provides students with training in civil engineering within the context of a business environment. Students can learn and benefit from the experience and expertise of staff from the School of Architecture & the Built Environment. The Association of Small & Medium Enterprises (ASME) has stated that there is an increasing need for polytechnic graduates who are multi-disciplined and graduates who have skills in both technological and business areas will be in high demand. A recent survey of current and prospective students and other stakeholders has revealed that the course is well-accepted and attractive.
The course aims to prepare students for a rewarding career in the traditional technical roles as well as business aspects of civil engineering including engineering sales. Our graduates will be prepared for setting up and running their own civil engineering businesses.
The broad-based course also opens up further education options. In addition to taking a degree in civil engineering, they can do degrees in various business options.
The course offers:
- Business-related modules plus Introduction to Psychology
- A 12-week Internship
- Final Year Projects (FYPs), which may be linked to the industry through civil engineering and building companies
- A Conceive-Design-Implement-Operate (CDIO) framework curriculum with hands-on capstone projects at different levels of competency
There is an option for students to take a Diploma-plus certificate course. The course will continue to train our students to acquire knowledge, skills and the right attitudes for work and life.
