Overview

The Diploma in Hotel & Leisure Facilities Management (DHLFM), formerly known as Property Development & Facilities Management is a three-year full-time course. The aim of this course is to provide the best education and training for students who want a rewarding career in the facilities management of hotels, resorts, serviced apartments, commercial buildings, private & public housing, hospitals, airports, seaports and other physical assets.

Facilities Management is a rapidly growing professional and vital discipline concerned with the multi-disciplinary activities of integrating people, assets, the environment and processes to ensure functionality, to enhance lifestyles, to add value, and to optimise the physical environment and infrastructure. Facilities Management enables businesses and other organisations to carry out their main functions efficiently through space planning, asset management, event management, maintenance, administration and contract management.

Singapore is fast becoming a top MICE (Meeting Incentives Conventions & Exhibitions) and tourist destination, and education hub for international students. Hotels, serviced apartments, student hostels and economy class lodgings are sprouting up all over Singapore, leading to increased demand for expertise in Hotel Facilities Management.

Students will be taught a combination of soft business management skills and technical skills. Important areas of study include hotel operations, rooms division management, tourism & leisure management, food & beverage, safety, health & security, environmental management & sustainability, mechanical & electrical services, structure & fabrics, financial planning, budgeting and project management.

In the final year, students will opt for one of two concentrations:

  • Hotel & Leisure Management
  • Property Facilities Management

Students’ learning will be enhanced through a one-semester internship during the final year of their studies. Practical training includes out-of-classroom activities involving collaboration with hotels, restaurants, resorts, event organisers, etc. Overseas study trips are also organised every year.

The broad-based nature of the course and the versatility of the students are enhanced by the introduction of electives in the areas of business & management, science & technology and in humanities & social sciences.
