Programme Overview

The Polytechnic Foundation Programme (PFP) is a through-train programme offered by MOE and the polytechnics to the top Normal (Academic) students as part of MOE's effort to offer diverse academic pathways to students. Students enrolled into the PFP will skip their fifth year in the secondary schools and be admitted directly to the polytechnics to take up the PFP in lieu of GCE 'O' Levels. Upon completion of the PFP, they will embark on their 3-year full-time diploma courses as per other polytechnic-bound students. The one-year PFP offered by Singapore Polytechnic (SP) is broad-based and multi-disciplinary and is aimed at providing students with a strong foundation in English, Mathematics and Science. The main objective of SP's PFP programme is to prepare polytechnic-bound Normal (Academic) students for a seamless integration into the course of their choice at SP.

Course Synopsis

The one-year Polytechnic Foundation Programme (PFP) offered by Singapore Polytechnic (SP) is broad-based and multi-disciplinary with the aim of providing students with a strong foundation in English language, Mathematics and Science. The programme offers a practice-oriented curriculum to prepare polytechnic-bound Normal (Academic) students for a seamless integration into the course of their choice in SP.

The SP PFP will be conducted through small-group teaching to ensure that students receive ample support in their academic studies. Active and authentic learning will be incorporated throughout the programme to promote students’ engagement in the learning process. Through multi-disciplinary project work, students will also be equipped with basic Design Thinking skills that will enable them to conceive innovative solutions that meet the needs of users.

Besides the structured curriculum, students will also be participating in out-of-classroom activities such as industry visits and field trips to allow them to connect to their course of study.

"My PFP journey was definitely fruitful and enriching. I got to experience and adapt to a new environment and also learned how to step out of my comfort zone.

PFP @ SP made me feel at home. It provided a platform for me to meet like-minded people and has given me opportunities to make friends with different cultures and backgrounds, from all walks of life. PFP modules were designed to develop us holistically, modules like AEC develops our character and mindset by allowing us to step aside and think about what are the little things we can do to benefit the current society."
