The course will focus on the safety aspects of boiler operation, the correct operational practices in all kinds of boiler operation and their maintenance.
The content is aimed at escalating the knowledge base and safety awareness of participants and to prepare them for Class 2 Boiler attendant CoC examination.
1. Various boiler designs, constructions and principles of steam generation plant and feedwater loop.
2. Boiler mountings.
3. Boiler water chemistry.
4. Boiler combustion and automation.
5. Boiler operation and control.
6. WSH Legislation and duties of Boiler Operators.
7. Boiler damages, repairs and maintenance.
8. Case studies of boiler accidents and their causes and prevention.
9. Demonstration and hand-on practical in Boiler House and Simulator.
Technical personnel who have worked as operators of steam plants or onboard ships with boilers.
Assumed Skills and Knowledge
The applicant must be at least 21 years old and must have at least 24 months of relevant working experience assisting in operational charge of a steam boiler or equivalent.

Mode of Assessment
a. Written test of 20 mutltiple choice questions.
b. Practical test in the Steam Learning Centre and simulator on boiler safe operational matters and procedures.
c. Oral test on Workplace Safety and Health Act and regulations for boilers.
A Certification of Attendance will be issued to every participants if their attendance is not less than 75%.

1. Skills Development Fund (SDF)
Support level - Broad-based Skills Training / Certification Skills Training
SDF Assistance per trainee = $60.00 per participant.
a) $700.00 + $49.00 (GST) = $749.00 per participant
b) $749.00 - $60.00 (SDF Assistance) = $689.00 per participant (for companies only)
As the course fee type on SkillsConnect is Full Fee, all participants whose SDF Training Grant are applied and approved are to claim the grant from WDA, 120 days from course end date.
Participant has to be company-sponsored and only company cheque payment is accepted for SDF Training Grant application to be successful with WDA. Companies sponsoring eligible employees are required to register as a SkillsConnect User.
The total training hour of this course is 36 hours, which consists of 30 hours of Theory & Practical and 6 hours of Examination. The training grant only supports the 30 hours of Theory & Practical sessions but not the 6 hours of Examination.
2. SkillsFuture Credit (SFC)
With effect from January 2016, Singaporeans aged 25 years and above who received their SkillsFuture
Credit account activation letter will be eligible for an initial credit of $500 which can be used to pay for
course fees for a range of eligible skills-related courses. The credits can be used on top of existing
course fee subsidies/funding.
This is only applicable for self-sponsored applicants. Application via SkillsFuture Portal can only be made starting from 60 days before the course commencement date.
3. Union Training Assistance Programme (UTAP)
(Funding period: 16 September 2017 to 31 March 2018)
NTUC union members enjoy 50% (unfunded) course fee support for up to $250 each year when you enrol for courses supported under UTAP (Union Training Assistance Programme). Conditions apply.

3. Withdrawal and Deferment

For withdrawal cases, the portion of course fee to be refunded is based on the date of notice as follows:
- 2 weeks before the commencement of the course - Full refund
- Less than 2 weeks before commencement of the course - 70% refund
- On or after date of commencement - No refund
- There will be no refund or transfer of course once the account has been created.
The Singapore Polytechnic reserves the right to cancel or postpone any of the courses. Applicants will be duly notified and where applicable, the full fees will be refunded.
The Singapore Polytechnic also reserves the right to amend the fees charged or the period and duration of the courses.
The data provided to Singapore Polytechnic will be kept strictly confidential and will be used for the purpose of course administration. The data may be passed on to the relevant organisations that require the information related to the course.
