What is this course about?
After obtaining Class 2 Engineer CoC, marine engineers sail as 3rd or 2nd Engineer for a period of 18 months. Some may sail even as 4th Engineer, mostly doing “operations level” work. To take on the responsibility at “management level” requires changing their mindset to think as a manager, make risk based decisions, build confidence to lead ship staff and update their knowledge. Class1 CoC Orals preparatory course has been developed with close cooperation of MPA, the CoC issuing authority, and the maritime Industry.
This course will prepare a candidate for CoC Class1 orals exams and develop competence to take on the responsibility of a Chief Engineer of a ship in accordance with STCW 95 Convention.

1. Class 2 Engineer CoC
2. Approved sea-going service on ships powered by main propulsion machinery of 3,000kW propulsion power or more.
3. Eligible to appear for Class1 CoC orals conducted by MPA

SkillsFuture Credit (SFC)
With effect from January 2016, Singaporeans aged 25 years and above who received their SkillsFuture Credit account activation letter will be eligible for an initial credit of $500 which can be used to pay for course fees for a range of eligible skills-related courses. The credits can be used on top of existing course fee subsidies/funding.
This is only applicable for self-sponsored applicants and must be applied via SkillsFuture Portal within 30 days from course commencement date.
1. Marine Engineering at Management Level
2. Electrical, Electronic and Control Engineering at the Management Level
3. Maintenance and Repair at the Management level
4. Controlling the Operation of the Ship and Care for Persons Onboard at the Management Level
5. Monitor and control compliance with legislative requirements
Award / Certification / Accreditation
Certificate of Attendance will be issued ONLY if the course participant has achieved at least 75% attendance.
A - Online Registration
 Fill up the electronic form. For international student, please ensure your Name, date of birth,
gender and nationality are key in correctly as appear in your travel document to facilitate
visa/student pass application.
 Once completed, click on the Submit button
 You will receive online acknowledgement that you have successfully submitted the registration
 Singapore Polytechnic will then register and enrol upon payment of the fees.
Please note that once the maximum class size is reached, the online registration will be closed.
B – International Student Students should be prepared to stay in Singapore for at least 3 months.
C – Visa / Student Pass Application for International Student Singapore Polytechnic will be applying the student pass for you via Student Pass On-Line Application & Registration (SOLAR) system administered by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA). For candidates from countries which require a visa to enter Singapore (details can be found at the ICA web site at http://www.ica.gov.sg/page.aspx?pageid=96&secid=94), we will also be applying the visa cum student pass for you via the SOLAR system.
Please note that your enrolment to the course is conditional upon ICA approving your application for an entry visa AND student pass.

D – Insurance Candidates are required to carry an overseas travel and medical insurance during their stay in Singapore.
Course fees can be paid by the following payment modes: a) For e-payment using Visa/Master cards, please click on the ‘Make ePayment’ button on the acknowledgement page to proceed.
b) For NETS payment, you can pay at:

d) Cheques should be made payable to Singapore Polytechnic. Please cross the cheque and write the Registration Reference ID, Applicant Name and NRIC/FIN number on the back of the cheque. Mail the cheque to:

Please note that an administrative charge of $15 will be imposed for any returned cheques from the bank or financial institution.
F. All successful applicants will be notified with a letter of confirmation via email.
G. Withdrawal and Deferment
Withdrawal and deferment notice must be made in writing to the Professional & Adult Continuing Education (PACE) Academy via email to [email protected]. For withdrawal cases, the portion of course fee to be refunded is based on the date of notice as follows:
• 2 weeks before the commencement of the course - Full refund
• Less than 2 weeks before commencement of the course - 70% refund
• On or after date of commencement - No refund
The Singapore Polytechnic reserves the right to cancel or postpone any of the courses. Applicants will be duly notified and where applicable, the full fees will be refunded.
The Singapore Polytechnic also reserves the right to amend the fees charged or the period and duration of the courses.
The data provided to Singapore Polytechnic will be kept strictly confidential and will be used for the purpose of course administration. The data may be passed on to the relevant organisations that require the information related to the course.
