Specialist Diploma in Mobile Apps Development



In the Infocomm Manpower Development Roadmap v2.0 (MDEV 2.0), the Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) of Singapore has identified mobile application development as an emerging IT skillset that is critical for Singapore's IT manpower to remain competitive both globally and locally. In view of the demand of skills for the development of mobile applications, the School of Digital Media and Infocomm Technology (DMIT) is launching a Specialist Diploma in Mobile Apps Development.


The Specialist Diploma in Mobile Apps Development (SMAP) is a hybrid course comprising 75% face-to-face and 25% e-learning sessions. It is a part-time course taking place over a one year duration and is targeted at Degree or Diploma holders who wish to learn mobile application development.


The job opportunities in the mobile application development industry are increasing, and this course will equip our graduates with the requisite skills to increase their career prospects in this emerging field, or create their own applications for commercialisation.


Students are expected to have access to computer and internet during your study at SP eg. e-learning, writing report, etc.


Course Objectives


This course aims to equip students with the skills to develop mobile applications on the android platform. Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to understand object-oriented concepts, design user interfaces for mobile devices, develop mobile applications, and create and consume web services.



Suitable for


Programmers, Project Leaders, Web Developers, Systems Analysts, Business Analysts, Application Developers and Mobile Application Developers.



Minimum Entry Requirements

Applicants should have a relevant engineering or IT Polytechnic Diploma/Degree from recognised institution or an equivalent qualification. Degree holders or polytechnic diploma from other disciplines must have at least 2 years of experience in programming.

This course consists of 2 post diploma certificates (PDCs). Each PDC comprises two modules and the details are as follows:

PDC 1 Certificate in Mobile User Interaction and Programming
Module 1 - Mobile Programming
Module 2 - Mobile User Interaction

Semester Two
PDC 2 Certificate in Mobile Applications and Web Services

Module 3 - Mobile Applications
Module 4 - Web Services



Award / Certification / Accreditation


Upon completion of two Certificates within a two-year validity period, the participant will be conferred a Specialist Diploma qualification from Singapore Polytechnic.
