The evolution of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) has provided a new generation of business opportunities and commerce. Information has become a commodity and the networks that transfer and process it have become critical to the corporate and government infrastructure.
Every aspect of our society is influenced by the benefits of technology. However, it is also that same functionality that also hosts new threats, vulnerabilities and security implications. According to the Infocomm Media Development Authority of Singapore (IMDA), the top five greatest shortage of skilled manpower, infocomm security personnel ranked second.
The course enrols and prepares graduates for Cisco Network Academy CCNA Security certification programme.
The Specialist Diploma in Network Security was introduced by the school to address this industrial demand. The course intends to train graduates with practical knowledge and skills in the area of network security. The course intends to train graduates with practical knowledge and skills in the following areas:
(a) Network Security
(b) Firewall & Intrusion Prevention
(c) Wireless Network & Security
(d) Network Analysis & Forensics
This course is designed for practitioners who want to learn how networks are being hacked into and ways to better protect their networks. Participants with a basic knowledge of computers and networks are welcome to join course.
Minimum Entry Requirements
Applicants to the course must have a polytechnic Diploma in any engineering or computer related field.
Applicants with equivalent diploma qualifications from other countries should have secured first class or equivalent grade or an equivalent qualification. Applicants with other equivalent qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
The course will be a one-year part-time (Evenings-only) course comprising of 4 modules and a project. Participants must complete and pass all the four modules and project.
Participants will take 2 modules in each semester. All participants will participate in a project which will be based on the application of knowledge and skills acquired from the other 4 modules. Students may also propose projects based on their work environment and industry.
Each of the modules is 60 hours in duration, requiring 4 hours of contact for 15 weeks (one semester). The total instructional hours for the course are 300 hours (inclusive of project work).

Upon completion of two Certificates within a two-year validity period, the participant will be conferred a Specialist Diploma qualification from Singapore Polytechnic.

- Part-Time Diploma or Post Diploma course participants who submit the withdrawal notification 2 weeks before course commencement, an administrative fee of $50 (before GST) would be levied.
