Course Objective

Students will be able to learn concepts in Digital Fabrication and at the same time apply in creating a 3D object of his or her design.

Getting Started with CAD (Computer - Aided Design)

The module introduces types of design software used for Raster and Vector designs. Participants will digitally draw, manipulate and transform images and objects using both types of software to be able to differentiate the use and application of each type. Participants will also develop a 3D design project using collaborative interaction within a team.

Getting Started with 3D Digital Design & Printing

The objective of this module is to introduce modelling software and 3D digital design. The module also provides an overview of additive manufacturing, and discusses benefits and limitations of the additive technology. Participants will design and make a personalized 3D object.

Getting Started with 3D Scanning & Printing

The objective of this module is to introduce 3D scanning techniques. Participants will 3D scan an object, make required touch-ups, checks and modifications. The completed digital replica is then 3D printed.

Getting Started with 2D Digital Design, Laser Cutting & Engraving

The objective of this module is to introduce 2D digital design for laser cutting and engraving. Participants will learn to operate a Laser Cutter, laser cut an object and aesthetically enhance it with engraving.

Getting Started with Electronics Design & Production

This module starts with an introduction to electricity and basic electronics. The module also provides an overview of electronic design automation using digital schematic design and board placement. Participants will learn to design, and make a surface mount PCB through milling, soldering and testing of the completed circuit.

Getting Started with Arduino

This module starts with an introduction to Arduino System comprising of Integrated Development Environment and the microcontroller boards associated with the system. Participants will learn how to develop programs and use libraries to devise simple applications with an Arduino microcontroller board.

Getting Started with Arduino Monitoring & Control

This module uses the Arduino IDE and an associated microcontroller board to teach monitoring of input data from switches and devices, processing the information and transforming it to control displays and motors.

Getting Started with Project Development

Having completed three or more of the “Getting started” modules, this modules allows participants to combine the skills into making a multi-disciplinary project.  Participants will learn about project development techniques and apply them to their personalised project involving three or more of the technologies learnt earlier.

3. Withdrawal and Deferment

Withdrawal and deferment notice must be made in writing to the Professional & Adult Continuing Education (PACE) Academy, Singapore Polytechnic via email accordingly:

For withdrawal cases, the portion of course fee to be refunded is based on the date of notice as follows:

Classroom

  • 2 weeks before the commencement of the course - Full refund
  • Less than 2 weeks before commencement of the course - 70% refund
  • On or after date of commencement - No refund

E-Learning

There will be no refund or transfer of course once the account has been created.

The Singapore Polytechnic reserves the right to cancel or postpone any of the courses. Applicants will be duly notified and where applicable, the full fees will be refunded.

The Singapore Polytechnic also reserves the right to amend the fees charged or the period and duration of the courses.
