WSQ Specialist Diploma in Occupational Hygiene


What is this course about?

The WSQ Specialist Diploma in Occupational Hygiene is a qualification offered under the Occupational Hygiene Professionals Workforce Skills Qualification Framework.

This competency-based course aims to train personnel to be competent in assisting employers, occupiers and other stakeholders in the anticipation, recognition, evaluation and control of occupational hygiene risks at the workplace. This will drive improvements in workplace health (WH) management and raise WH standards.


Suitable for

The target audience of this Specialist Diploma in Occupational Hygiene may include:


- Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) professionals such as WSH Coordinators, Officers, and Auditors


- Occupational Hygiene (OH) professionals such as OH Technicians etc.


- Occupational health professionals such as occupational health nurse and physicians


- Other professionals in OH-related fields such as ergonomics, human factors, occupational psychology, biosafety, noise monitoring and control, acoustics, engineering, analytical chemistry, facility management, or human resources etc., who would like to gain more knowledge and a broad appreciation of the occupational hygiene matters at the workplace



This course is accredited under the WSQ Specialist Diploma Occupation Hygiene Programme, for Continuing Professional Development Programme. Participants will gain 300 SDU points upon completion of the course. Course participants must complete this course with at least 75% attendance rate per module.

**Please take note that the module Plan, Prepare and Deliver Presentation is not entitled to any SDU points.




Minimum Entry Requirements


Applicants must meet the following entry requirement:


1. ESS - WPL (Reading, Writing, Listening & Speaking) Level 6 OR GCE "O" Levels in English (Grades 1-6)


2. ESS - WPN - Level 6 OR GCE "O" Levels in Mathematics (Grades 1-6)


3. GCE "O" Levels in Science (Chemistry and Physics) (Grades 1-6)


4. 2 years of working experience in any industry


* To be eligible for the course, applicants must provide evidence for the above documents

Note: Participants who are certified competent for SDWSH Level C are immediately exempted for English, Math and Physics. 

Course Outline

The WSQ Specialist Diploma in Occupational Hygiene (WSQ SDOH) consists of 11 modules.

3.  Evaluate Health Effects due to Hazardous Substances 

4.  Measure Exposure and Assess the Risks 

5. Monitor Noise and Vibration

6. Control Noise and Vibration 

7. Plan, Prepare and Deliver Presentations 

8. Manage Indoor Air Quality

9. Evaluate Ergonomics-Related Hazards 

10. Manage Hazardous Substances 

11. Evaluate and Control Biological Hazards

Exemption from module:
Please note that applicants can apply for exemption (maximum of 3 modules); subjected to approval.

Participants have to meet minimum 75% attendance and attain competency in the module. If the 75% attendance and/or competency criteria are not met, participants will have to pay the subsidy amountto Singapore Polytechnic.


Please submit latest payslip (only applicable to WTS subsidy applicant) and completed Declaration Form upon successful Enrolment to receive the subsidies.


1. Baseline Funding

Eligibility Criteria:
a) Singaporean or Permanent Residents (Company or Self Sponsored) aged 21 years old and above
b) Sponsoring companies must be registered and/or incorporated in Singapore and must fully sponsor the course fee
c) Participants must:
i.  achieve at least 75% attendance
ii.  Complete and certified competent through all required assessments
iii. Complete post-training surveys conducted between 3-6 months after course end

Participants who have been granted the WDA funding but fail to meet the above requirements would be liable for the subsidised course fee.

2. Enhanced Workfare Training Support (WTS) Scheme
With effect from 1 July 2013, if you are a Singapore citizen aged 35 years or over, have a monthly income of not more than $1,900, you can enjoy 95% subsidy of your course fee for a wider range of courses covering all Singapore Workforce Skills Qualifications (WSQ ) courses, Academic Continuing Education and Training (CET) courses approved by the Ministry of Education (MOE), as well as Certifiable Skills Training courses accredited or supported by the Singapore Workforce Development Agency (WDA). You may also be eligible for a training allowance* if you sign up forany WTS qualifying courses on your own without the support of your employer and successfully complete it. In addition, you may receive cash awards* for completing training.

3. Skills Future Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy

With effect from 1st October 2015, Singaporeans aged 40 years and above will enjoy higher subsidies of up to 90% of course fees under the SkillsFuture Mid-Career Enhanced Subsidy scheme.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Singaporean aged 40 years and above at the point of enrolment
- Achieve at least 75% attendance in the course
- Complete and pass all required assessments
- Complete post-training surveys conducted between 3-6 months after course end

4. Absentee Payroll Funding

Mode of Assessment


Assessment will be conducted during training and at the end of training through various assessment strategies.






Participants will be awarded the WSQ Specialist Diploma in Occupational Hygiene if they meet 75% attendance rate as well as passing all assessments required by the course.



Application Procedure

During the enrolment exercise, Applicants are required to present the Original copy of education qualifications and relevant documentations:


A copy of each document will be retained by the Professional & Adult Continuing Education (PACE) Academy.


Withdrawal and Deferment

Withdrawal and deferment notice must be made in writing to the Professional & Adult Continuing Education (PACE) Academy via email to [email protected]. For withdrawal cases, the portion of course fee to be refunded is based on the date of notice as follows:


· 2 weeks before the commencement of the course - Full refund
· Less than 2 weeks before commencement of the course - 70% refund
· On or after date of commencement - No refund


The Singapore Polytechnic reserves the right to cancel or postpone any of the courses.


Applicants will be duly notified and where applicable, the full fees will be refunded.


The Singapore Polytechnic also reserves the right to amend the fees charged or the period and duration of the courses.
