Centre for Cloud Computing & Embedded Systems

About the Centre

The Centre for Cloud Computing & Embedded Systems has its beginnings in June 2004 as a teaching Data Centre, modelled after an Internet Service Provider (ISP) network, to provide state-of-the-art facility for network education and training.

The centre has been extensively refreshed and upgraded to a Cloud Computing infrastructure in 2010 and provides an environment to train technologists in the latest trends and technologies in Virtualization, Cloud Computing, Green IT, Energy Efficient Data Centres and Data Centre management.

The centre also has a large pool of dedicated staff who specialize in Embedded Systems and Real-time Computing. Staff from the Centre often collaborate with industry, academic and research institutions on embedded system applications and applied R&D.

Capabilities and Technical Services

The centre specialises in Data Centre and Network Management, Virtualization and Cloud Computing technologies, microcontroller and embedded systems design and applying these technologies to solve real world problems.

It provides a wide range of services, including the following:

  • Production environment for critical network and data centre operations that require 24/7 monitoring and disaster recovery techniques
  • Teaching environment for SP students to receive quality training in data centre management, system virtualization, cloud computing, green IT and embedded systems
  • Exposure of SP students to industry leading virtualization and cloud computing solutions and training of students in the use of these products
  • Facility for industry partners to conduct product testing and showcase cloud computing, green IT, networking and embedded system applications
  • Collaborative R&D work and technology transfer with industry partners
  • Consultancy in cloud computing, system virtualization, networking, data centre management and embedded system applications
  • Industry short courses/workshops/seminars in cloud computing, data centre management, system virtualization and embedded system development
  • Usage of the facilities for a nominal fee for industry partners
  • As a reference site on cloud computing, energy efficient computing and data centre operations for industry and schools
