About the Centre

The Centre for Computer Systems & Infocomm Technology is one of the core Technology Centres under the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering. It is a project development centre with technical support from the academic staff who are actively involved in Computer Systems and Infocomm Technology projects. It also provides students with facilities to work on a variety of Computer Systems and Infocomm Technology projects. Our physical locations include the Cloud Computing Centre and the Centre for Infocomm Technology.

Capabilities and Technical Services

The centre specialises in R&D and applied projects in the following technology areas:

Cloud Computing
Embedded Systems Applications
Mobile Phone and Multimedia Applications
Smart Devices and Wireless Applications

Backed by the vast experience of the members, the centre has been providing technical consultation, training, seminars and project collaboration to the local government, educational institutions, businesses and industry.

Project Showcase

The Centre promotes a wide array of Computer Systems and Infocomm Technology projects undertaken by students and staffs. Some of the achievements and past projects are shown below.

The project showcase how the Internet of Things (IoT) technologies can be used to transform the life of a modern individual. The IoT Connected Home is a vision where everyday objects and items are interconnected to help manage the busy life of an individual. The modern individual uses many online social media (e.g. Twitter, Facebook) and tools (e.g. calendar and maps) for his daily living. The next logical step is to extend these tools to the home by connecting them to common household items. It provides a glimpse of this exciting future.

Smart eMeter @SP

The aim of this project is to create a smart energy meter (eMeter) that is able collect energy usage using wireless technology. Commercial eMeters are used and we integrate it to our Zigbee wireless interfaces to send the energy data to a backend Cloud system. It allows users to check on daily or total electricity usage whenever and wherever through internet access. Data is sent and received via RESTful web services.

iHospital Projects

Since 2008, our centre has been actively collaborating with the Khoo Teck Puat (previously Alexandra) Hospital on the use of Wireless Communications and IP Telephony for applications in the hospital. Partners like Cisco and Nexlabs also lent their assistance in the projects. Some of the projects that staff and students worked on include iHospital, iBuzz, Dream Ward, Patient Information System on VoIP and Wireless e-care Monitoring System.

PIC Microcontroller Kit with USB Interface

Design and development of a USB-based PIC microcontroller kit for use in the teaching of Microcontroller Technology and Design & Innovation modules in the School of EEE.

Microcontrollers for Robotic Applications

Development of microcontroller boards for the Advanced Robotics & Intelligent Control Centre and Singapore Robotic Games projects.

Data Centre Infrastructure & Services

Providing data centre infrastructure and services to support connected laboratories in Teaching Block 9 (11 laboratories), facilitating training in data centre operations, network management, networking and network security disciplines over in a “production” scale environment.
