The Diploma in Mechatronics (DMA) was first launched in 1991 to support manufacturing as a key engine of the Singapore economy. Subsequently, in 2010, the course was renamed the Diploma in Mechatronics and Robotics (DMRO) to reflect a curriculum that meets the diversifying needs of the complex manufacturing industry. Today, nine of the world's top ten control and automation companies have established their global presence with Singapore. Multi-faceted skills
The DMRO course is a multi-disciplinary study that integrates mechanical engineering with electronics and computer technology. It focuses on intelligent systems to enhance the manufacturing processes.
Real-world applications
Our students work confidently with several industrial clients and vie for coveted awards at high-profile robotics competitions locally and internationally. Experiencing the working world via realistic projects prepares them to perform independently or in a team. Some versatile graduates have forayed successfully into professions in banking, accountancy and medicine.
Student projects
I have always dreamed of being an engineer. Hence, there was never a moment I regretted studying at the Singapore Polytechnic.
As I also love Mathematics and Physics, I naturally find Mechatronics very appealing. I combined my wide interests developing industrial and consumer applications. My sense of achievement was tremendous when the individual components I designed were transformed into a moving robot!
I had time for recreation. I played table tennis, basketball and also went to the gym regularly. I jammed on the electronic keyboard with friends, making good use of my Grade 10 qualification.
MAE has prepared me well for university. I received multiple offers to pursue a degree both locally and abroad. I am confident my diploma is well-recognized in Singapore and overseas.
Wei Linyun DMA Gold Medallist 2012
I had contemplated studying at a JC. Now that I have completed my Diploma in Mechatronics, I am certain my decision to enrol in SP was right.
The hands-on approach has given me a huge advantage over JC friends. The in-depth knowledge imparted has equipped me well for both further studies and working as an engineer.
Through my OITP and course modules, I experienced the process of a project from brainstorming for ideas to realizing the product and presenting it in public. SP has given me a truly holistic education.
