What is this course about?
Singapore is at the forefront of logistics development with its well-equipped and efficient airport and seaport. The growing global competition and complex logistics environment are providing fresh challenges and opportunities for Singapore. With the increase in demand for outsourcing, total logistics support and cost reduction, there is a need for establishing a strong logistics infrastructure and excellent logistics management skills. This course is geared towards providing knowledge and specialised skill-sets needed in logistics operations to meet the challenges of complex supply chain management and the demand for logistics professionals in Singapore.
This one-year evenings-only course is designed to upgrade participants with up-to-date knowledge and techniques in the field of Supply Chain Management and Logistics. The curriculum is complemented by the use of SAP software to suit the demands of the industry. It consists of six modules of 45 hours each conducted over two semesters.
Suitable for
Managers and executives involved in various aspects of supply chain operation and management in the organisation including planning and management of enterprise resources, procurement, inventory, warehouse system and distribution of goods.
Entry Requirements
Applicants must possess a polytechnic diploma or degree in any discipline from a recognised institution.
Non-Singaporeans must be working in Singapore and possess a valid Employment Pass / Work Permit / Dependant’s Pass throughout the course duration. They would need to bear the full risk of non-completion should their pass expire and subsequently lapse within the duration of the course.
Applicant must NOT be a student in any other Full-Time or Part-Time course when the term commences.
* Foreign qualifications will be assessed on a case by case basis.
Funding Incentives
With effect from 1 April 2011, Singapore Citizens and Singapore Permanent Residents will pay 15% and 40% of the course fees respectively (subject to revision). Singapore Citizens who pursue subsequent Advanced or Specialist Diploma course will pay 30% of the course fees, provided that five years or more have lapsed since they completed and graduated from their previous Advanced or Specialist Diploma programmes.
The subsidy is only for normal course duration. Extra semesters taken (e.g. due to transfer, repeat, re-enrolment) would be charged full fees.

Module Synopsis
Principles of Supply Chain Management This module gives a broad overview of the impact of Information Technology on Supply Chain Management in business operation with a comprehensive view in challenges faced by enterprises in the global market. The topics covered include principles of Supply Chain Management, managing Supply Chain to stay competitive, Information Technology in Logistics, the integration of logistics and business strategy, organisation change in business market, SCOR model (Supply Chain Operation Reference), implementation and Customer Relationship Management.(CRM), Strategic Planning, Activity Based Costing and Quality Measurement in Supply Chain, the importance and business benefits of E-commerce in Supply Chain, include the strategic importance of E-commerce, types of E-commerce, B-B, B-C and C-C and the key considerations and components in E-commerce.
Materials Management This module is to provide students with an understanding of basic concepts in managing the flow of materials from supplier to store. The topics covered include inventory management, vendor managed inventory, supplier relation Management, e-procurement and international purchasing, demand management, ERP concept and implementation, manufacturing resources planning techniques and hands-on applications using SAP ERP software package.
Warehouse Planning & Operations This module aims to provide students with a basic concept in the warehousing planning and operations. The areas covered are roles of warehousing in the supply chain, storage functionality and principles, goods identification technology (RFID), plant layout in warehousing, automatic warehousing and materials handling systems, dangerous goods handling, vendor managed inventory. This module is also incorporated with hands-on practice on WMS using SAP ERP software package.
Distribution & Transportation Management This module aims to provide students with knowledge on the activities involved in the movement of goods and provides a basic understanding on the technologies and practices in transportation management. Topics covered include roles of transportation in supply chain, distribution resource planning, channels in distribution, protective packaging technology, unit loads, containers, and carrier compatibility, economics in transportation, transportation and customer service levels, and transportation infrastructure. Hands-on practice on Transportation Management are incorporated using ERP software package such as SAP.
Process Modelling and Simulation This module provides a broad overview on the business process flow and simulation in the area of supply chain and logistics. Students learn the methodology of business process modelling for ERP, manufacturing systems, outsourcing, logistics and supply chain processes. Practical training on discrete event simulation using PC-based simulation package provide beginners with the basic skills of a simulation process starting from model building, experimental leading to results analysis. Topics covered include, introduction to business modelling and simulation, computer simulation, setting up a simulation study, and basic statistics in simulation.
Project Management in Supply Chain This module provides students with a comprehensive understanding of the project management in Supply Chain. Implementation process using techniques applied in scheduling and analysis and maintenance of the programme. It provides problem-solving skills and techniques in designing, developing and managing projects in the Supply Chain. Topics covered include project planning, project scheduling, project controlling, critical path analysis, value engineering, concurrent projects optimization and project evaluation techniques, strategic importance in project management such as international project management. Mini-projects will be incorporated to enhance the theoretical concepts.
Mode of Assessment
Assessment methods employed are tutorials, case studies, mini-projects, assignments, presentations and class tests.
Advancement Opportunities
This course is designed to upgrade Polytechnic Diploma graduates with up-to-date knowledge and techniques in the field of Supply Chain Management and Logistics to sharpen their ability to meet market demand and to enhance their opportunities for career advancement.
Certification
Participants will be awarded the Specialist Diploma in Supply Chain Management if they meet the 75% attendance rate as well as passing all assessments required by the course.
