Academically-driven students who intend to further study can embark on additional coursework such as Advanced Modules in Mathematics within their three years of polytechnic education. These coursework give our students strong foundation in Mathematics, which in turn provide them a competitive edge for engineering, science and technological courses in universities. Other programmes like SP Engineering Scholars and SP Outstanding Talent (SPOT) also offer our academically bright students enrichment activities that are designed to nurture them into well-rounded individuals. All our students undergo a specially customised six-week internship programme at Chemical Process Technology Centre (CPTC) on Jurong Island, which allows our students to experience working in a live industry-scale chemical plant. Upon completion of the CPTC internship programme, our students are awarded a Certificate on Chemical Process Operation Training for Diploma Level that recognises them to be work competent for chemical processing industry. Besides the CPTC internship programme, career-driven students who wish to gather greater industrial exposure can choose to take part in Optional Industrial Training Programme (OITP) by going for industrial attachments to relevant local or overseas companies. Research-driven students, on the other hand, can also choose to partake in OITP by going for research attachments to local or overseas universities. Students who wish to challenge themselves beyond their comfort zones and work on real company-sponsored or industry-collaborated projects (that can be non-engineering in nature) can participate in SP Multi-Disciplinary Projects (MDPs). In addition, selected students with keen aptitude in creativity and innovation have the chance of working on projects sponsored by multi-national companies under Live Well Collaborative Singapore. Besides getting a solid education in DCHE, SP, our students will also enjoy an enriching and endearing polytechnic life with us. We have a DCHE Student Chapter (DCHESC) that organises events and activities throughout every academic year. Our students can run for office in DCHESC, which in turn hones their organisational and leadership skills.
