Q4. How are proposals evaluated by the SP Technology, Innovation & Enterprise Fund Allocation (TIEFA) Committee?

Each proposal will be evaluation based on the evaluation guidelines set out for the specific grant the PI is applying for.

Q5. Who are the members in the TIEFA Committee?

TIEFA Committee chaired by Deputy Principal (Technology & Industry) comprises of Cluster Senior Directors, Directors of Finance, Organisation Development, Industry Services, Technology Transfer & Enterprise Centre and co-chairs of R&D Evaluation Panel.

Q6. Does my project need prior approval by the Ethics Review Committee (ERC)?

The ERC reviews SP research project that involves the participation of human subject/ human tissue.  Principal Investigator (PI) of the research project should submit an application for ERC review upon approval and/or award of grant prior to the commencement of the project.  For more information on the application procedure and submission deadline, please refer to ERC website at http://www.sp.edu.sg/erc

Q7. Do I need to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) whenever I enter into a discussion with the industry?

It depends on substance and intensity of the information disclosed. If in doubt, it is always recommended for the party whom you are meeting to sign a non-disclosure agreement (NDA) . A copy of the technology disclosure form is available for download.

Q9. If my project involves industry partner, when should I arrange for the signing of the collaboration research agreement (CRA)?

It is recommended that a CRA should be executed for research projects that are sponsored by the industry partner. A copy of the sample CRA template is available for download. Please note that all agreements should be cleared by SP legal council’s before the signing.

Q10. What are the policies in place that support SP staff working on R&D?

There are incentives provided to staff participating in R&D work. Please approach the Deputy Director or R&D manager/in-charge of your school for details.

Q11. Can I simply proceed to publish or exhibit the result of my research?

If you have the intention to exploit or commercialise the result of any research (“invention”), submission of a technology disclosure prior to the publication or exhibition is strongly recommended. Do allow at least 2 months from date of submission of the form to the event that constitute a public disclosure of the invention. A copy of the technology disclosure form is available for download.

Q12. How do I apply for a patent application?

All requests for the filing of a patent application will be assessed by TIEFA Committee. The requester is required to submit a technology disclosure form and provide a presentation to the Committee. It is recommended that obtain industry interest in licensing the technology prior to submitting the technology disclosure form.

Q13. Can I receive revenue through the commercialization of my research?

Yes. Please approach TTEC staff to explore options of commercialization through licensing or spin-offs.

MOE's Innovation Fund and TOTE's Social Innovation Research Fund support research projects in the areas of Business and Humanities.
