Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) Green Catalyst Challenge 2018
The “Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) Green Catalyst Challenge 2018” is a competition organised by the Singapore Green Building Council (SGBC) as part of their Green School Initiative (GSI) educational outreach programme. The event engages the younger generation with the objective to turn sustainable goals into action, challenging them to develop practical green building solutions.
The event was held at the Bukit Panjang Community Centre (Multi-purpose Hall) on 11 August 2018, a community centre that was certified with the “Green Mark Gold Plus” by the Building and Construction Authority (BCA). The event comprised of a showcase where teams from the five local polytechnics were given a chance to present their green ideas to a panel of judges comprising of the SGBC President Mr. Tan Swee Yiow, Guest-of-Honour Mr. Teo Ho Pin, Mayor of the North West CDC, Ms Esther An, Ar. Khoo Poh Bin, AR Kuan Chee Yung, ER. Tong Kok Kwang and Mr Zac Toh. This was followed by an award ceremony.
About 80 guests attended the event and they comprise of families and friends of the competing teams and facility management industry players. To prepare for the event, the team of Diploma in integrated Events & Project Management (DEPM) students working on the event had to source and propose different green locations to the client including the cost estimates. Other tasks included providing logistic support such as managing the crowds, manning the registration counters, collating the participants’ presentation slides, designing the stage backdrop, etc.
