Car-Free Weekend: Blast From the Past

Car-Free Weekend: Blast From the Past is an event initiated by Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) to bring Singaporeans together and spread awareness of the benefits of reducing the number of cars on the roads. The event was held along Amoy Street on 26 October 2019. The team’s contributions as part of URA’s overall Car-Free Weekend programme included creating ideas for activities, planning and executing them. The evening’s event attracted about 1,000 attendees comprising families, youth and children, enjoying themselves throughout the evening.

Our roles in this event included planning and running entertaining activities for attendees, organising entertainment with a live band performance by the Singapore Polytechnic GarageBand, and creating an energetic carnival atmosphere by transforming a busy street into a high-spirited and “cool’ filled space for audiences and attendees to wind away through the evening.

Our activities set the tone for fun and relaxing event; the Old School Games and a live band performance do appeal, attract and engage families and youths to participate. We also carried out our marketing strategies, designed attractive posters and created a “buzz” through social media. The evening’s event was fun, nostalgic and created an evening hangout for all present.
