DEWT students Natalie Phoon Ru Yi, Shen Zhonghuan, Ng Li Hui and Yu ShuChun have been selected to receive the Polytechnic Student Research Project (PSRP) Award 2015. The award is given to the two best projects selected from each polytechnic. In addition to a monetary award of $500, the students received certificates from Dy Principal Mr Lim Peng Hun, at a ceremony held at Singapore Polytechnic on 17 April 2015. DEWT students also won the PSRP Award in 2014 in collaboration with NUS.
The PSRP was launched by NTU in 1997 to nurture local polytechnic students in R&D through immersion in the scientific and engineering research environment.
The project entitled “Functionalised Sugarcane Bagasse in Dual Uptake of Organic Dye and Oil from Water” was a collaborative research work between ABE (Supervisor: Dr Handojo Djati Utomo), NTU, Department of Material Science (A/P Andrew C Grimsdale) and Advanced Material and Technology Centre (AMTC) (Dr Lim Zheng Bang). This integrated final -year students’ project was initiated by Dr Handojo.
During the second stage the project was upgraded into a deeper research project with help from AMTC and NTU (FACTS). The harmonious teamwork among supervisors and students benefitted the students and enabled them to acquire more scientific knowledge and research skills that are important for their future studies.
In the 3rd stage, in addition to technical knowledge, the students’ presentation skills were polished and with the help of Ms Lee Yoke Ling (CASS staff), whose time and effort is much appreciated.
