A team comprising of 4 students from the Diploma in Civil Engineering with Business, CHOK MAN MING, LEE SER LI BERNICE, TEO YONG CHIAN and MUHAMMAD AUFALMARAM BIN SAMSULBAHRI won the 2nd Prize and The Most Popular Design Award in the "Cool Ideas for Better HDB Living 2015/16" Competition for Higher Education.
This competition was jointly organized by the Housing and Development Board (HDB) and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME-NUS Section) with the main objective of getting students involved in creating innovative ideas that help to solve some of the problems commonly faced by our HDB residents in Singapore.
The project entitled” The Singing Rubbish Bin” is powered by a solar panel embedded with a sensor and music microchip. The purpose is to encourage the public to throw rubbish into the bin thereby making an effort to create a greener and cleaner Singapore.
On 30th July 2016, the team received their Award Certificates & cash prizes from the HDB CEO Dr Cheong Koon Hean.
