DLA Student named a Winner for URA ‘My Ideas for Public Spaces’ Competition 2017

12 Sep 2017

For their Year 3 elective module (Advanced Digital Presentation), some students from Diploma in Landscape Architecture (DLA) participated in the URA ‘My Ideas for Public Spaces’ Competition 2017 opened to public in May’17.

Syafiq Mazlan’s entry ‘JUMP’ was selected as a winner when URA revealed the result on 5 Sept’17 with a public exhibition. The jury commended the proposal for its fun approach to creating public play spaces. The installation is a novel idea in Singapore’s context and has the potential to provide opportunities for people of all ages to enjoy.

Syafiq received his prize from the Minister for National Development and Second Minister for Finance, Mr Lawrence Wong, at the Prize Presentation Ceremony on 5 Sept’17

'JUMP’ aims to enhance existing public spaces with a specially designed feature trampoline platform; integrated with perimeter seats for parents or minders to rest and supervise the children playing. The feature also acts as a meeting point for the community to gather and mingle. Designed to be lightweight for ease of logistic, this installation can be easily implemented in most public open spaces.

Winning ideas and other selected entries are currently been exhibited at The URA Centre.
