Leap Foundation Camp at Kota Tinggi, Malaysia.

01 Oct 2015

39 students from the School of Architecture & the Built Environment and 45 students from the School of Mechanical & Aeronautical Engineering attended a 4 day leadership camp at Kota Tinggi, Malaysia from 14 to 17 September 2015.

Prior to the camp, the students have attended a one-day Steven Covey’s ‘7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens’ workshop, which allows them to apply their knowledge through activities aimed at moulding leadership skills during the camp.

Activities were conducted by qualified facilitators to inject the different forms of “habits” into the students. Most of these activities required the students to work together as a team to brainstorm, and inspired them to stand up as “leaders”.

After each activity, students were required to do reflections on how the “habits” were being taught and how they could use it in their own lives to benefit themselves and the people around them.

The highlight of the camp was the trekking expedition to the mountain called “Gunung Panti“. The 4-hour endurance walk on rough terrains stretched the students to their limits, tested their commitments and allowed them opportunities to apply what they have learnt.

A camp fire was also planned and prepared by the students on the last night of the camp as students gathered to celebrate the fruits of their labour. During the night, the students had to put up skits and performances to entertain one another. Through these activities, the students get to re-affirm their friendships and learn to appreciate one another even more.
