The study trip to Oita National College of Technology (ONCT), located in the northern part of Kyushu, took place from 26th Sep to 5nd Oct 2013. A team of 12 DCEB students led by Dr Liu Kao Xue went on this trip.

During the trip, the students were exposed to the practical sessions at ONCT on water quality testing, concrete strength testing, urban planning design and field water quality assessment at a local water fall.

The team visited Oita prefecture office and attended a technical talk by a civil engineer from the office on local practices in slope protection. The team also visited the famous Kokonoe Yumi Bridge considered a dream civil engineering creation, Oita Gawa Dam construction site and the Oita factory of Nippon Steel and Sumitomo Metal Corporation.

The students appreciated Japanese culture through Kimono and Calligraphy sessions. All participants found the trip to be not only technologically enriching but also an eye-opener on the natural beauty of the local scenery and rich culture. More importantly, the friendship and bond developed between the staff and students of the two institutions was strengthened.
