Bridge Design Competition at NTU 2018

15 Apr 2018

Three teams of students from the Diploma in Civil Engineering with Business course participated in the recent NTU Bridge Design Competition 2018 which was held at NTU from 10-11 March 2018. One team comprising students from Year 2, Teo Wilson and Ashok Kumar, won the 2nd Award of S$400.00 (and certificates) in the Polytechnic category of the competition.

A total of 28 teams have registered for the Polytechnic category of the competition. The students are required to design, analyse and fabricate a 3D physical model of a bridge based on various criteria. These include weight of model (to be not more than 30 grams), model to withstand a highest load applied (on a position along the span which only be made known during testing stage) as well as other factors such as sustainability, aesthetic and presentation. The SP team has emerged impressively in terms of highest load (sustaining a load of 300 N) in both the University and Polytechnic categories.

All students have truly enjoyed their participation in the competition.  They have learnt the importance of design and analysis of a structure, alongside with other local and foreign participants.
