Formulating her way to success

Adele Lau what is her most memorable ‘First’ experience in SP and she shares, “Mugging for exams on campus with my friends till late in the night!”

Sounds tough? Well, we are proud to share that Adele, an alumna of Jurong Secondary School who always had a penchant for cosmetics and skincare, has reaped bountiful rewards for her hard work.

Throwback to her secondary school days, the chemistry whiz was ecstatic when she found the perfect course to marry both her interests – SP’s Diploma in Perfumery & Cosmetic Science. “When I learnt of this niche diploma that allowed me to further my knowledge in Chemistry and apply it to skincare and cosmetics, I knew it was for me!”

Today, Adele is a full time cosmetic formulator for Verdant Lab, a home-grown artisanal lifestyle brand. As a formulator, she draws on chemistry knowledge acquired during her time in SP to create new scents and improve existing products for the brand.

After working hours, she takes up a second shift as the founder of Le Vyr, a brewery selling Kombucha with distinct local flavours – think Pei Pa Kao and Kopi O. “SP was very helpful in preparing me for the real world. From networking to being a good team player, the school provided soft and hard skills that will forever be invaluable to me, ” shared Adele. “The Design Thinking projects were very useful. It was a huge element that contributed to founding Le Vyr. From market research to surveys to prototyping and even crafting a business portfolio, it was everything I needed to become the entrepreneur I am today.”
