19 Jun 2024

Hussain Natchapol, a 26-year-old alumnus from Singapore Polytechnic (Class of 2020), overcame significant challenges to achieve success. Raised in an orphaned, single-parent family, he enrolled in the Diploma in Chemical Engineering (DCHE) program. Despite financial pressures and long work hours as a waiter, Natchapol persevered. Encouraged by dedicated lecturers, he excelled academically, secured internships, and now works as a process technician in the chemical industry. His story highlights the importance of resilience, mentorship, and hands-on learning.

Natchapol challenges misconceptions about his profession. He emphasises the need for expertise in understanding unique process units and the importance of safety. The chemical industry, he asserts, is vital for everyday life and is transforming toward sustainability. Despite 12-hour shifts, Natchapol appreciates learning opportunities, decent pay, and work-life balance. His advice to DCHE juniors: approach lecturers, maintain a positive attitude, and success will follow.
