Volunteering at Food Bank Singapore

04 Mar 2019

On 26 January 2019, 18 students and 2 lecturers from the Diploma in Food Science & Technology (DFST) course volunteered as helpers to sort and pack excess food at Food Bank. Not only does volunteering teaches our students compassion and understanding, they have the opportunity to create positive impact on society at large. Consolidating and sorting out excess food help in centralising effort to reduce food wastage. Through this eye-opening experience, students understand the processes behind food distribution services and gain awareness on the importance of food wastage reduction.

As mentioned by Year 1 student, Gina Low, “The volunteering experience brought awareness to me that Food Banking is essential in Singapore as it serves as a single collection of excess foods and distribution for food donations to charities.”
