Welcome to our weekly issue of 5 Things You Probably Didn’t Know About Our Course.

In this week’s issue, we ask the lecturers from the Diploma in Information Technology (DIT) on what it’s like in DIT and what the profession entails.
- DMIT Editor

1. DIT is the No. 1 most preferred DIT diploma course.

DIT has been around since 1982 and over the years, we have gained significant recognition by the industry as one of the leading IT diploma courses in Singapore. Many students have chosen DIT as their preferred IT diploma course and some of them have gone on to excel in their careers!

2. You may not know what you like yet so we’ll let you try!

The field of IT is rather wide and we know it’s hard for you to decide which area you’d like to be good at. So in your first year, we’ll let you try a little bit of everything - from infocomm security to developing software apps - just to give you an idea. In your second year, you will probably know which area you like, so we figured that we should let you spend most of your time having fun with it and getting good at it!

3. And as you are thinking about what you like, you might want to think about developing computer games too!

The really cool thing about having the freedom to try so many things in your first year is that you have time to decide what you really want to be good at. As you are trying, do think about developing computer games too! Why? Because there is an increasing demand in this area and we are just about one of the only courses that offers this!

4. About 75% of your time is spent building actual computer software rather than listening to the teacher talk.

In DIT, you actually learn best by building stuff instead of just listening to the teacher talk because it’s only through building that you will really learn how your software works (or dosen’t work!).

5. DIT students have gone on to work with big companies like Microsoft, Samsung, SingTel, Ubisoft, Electronic Arts!

We are proud that a number of DIT students have gone on to work with the big ones! We always believe in the need to constantly re-invent ourselves to stay current with the developments in IT and to meet the requirements of the industry. By doing so, we’ll equip you with the relevant skills to help you be a competitive force in the job market!
