DEB Alumnus, Alvin Wong, Awarded the National Infocomm Scholarship

18 Aug 2016

DEB alumnus, Alvin Wong, who graduated in 2013, received the National Infocomm Scholarship (NIS) offered by the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) to read the degree in Information Engineering & Media with Business Minor at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU).

Alvin was one of the seven students who took part in the 3 month Immersion Program in Beijing Technology and Business University (BTBU) during his final year. He was an active member in the SP band and also participated in the SP Entrepreneur Bazaar. Alvin was one of the 10 recipients among the thousands who applied for the scholarship this year. The award came through at his second attempt at applying for the scholarship. After his failed attempt in 2014, he decided to work, after his national service in 2015, to save up money for his studies. He worked in IDA as a permanent contract staff, performing the role of a tour educator to promote awareness of Smart Nation SG to local and foreign delegates and university students. He also conducted coding and 3D printing workshops for school children as part of the Smart Nation Outreach by IDA. While in IDA, he applied for the scholarship a second time and was successful.

We congratulate Alvin on his National Infocomm Scholarship award.
