EEE Parent-Tutor Communication Session 2018

10 Aug 2018

As part of SP’s initiative to develop a smart campus with the use of technology, School of EEE has implemented a new Smart Registration System for this year PTCS event.  The system was developed by EEE lecturer, Phyoe Kyaw Kyaw and his ex-FYP student, Chan Chung Loong, who has graduated in May 2018 and currently waiting for his enlistment for National Service in July 2018.

The smart registration system enables hassle-free assignment of a first-come-first-served time-slot for parents to meet their child’s personal tutor, thus effectively cutting down queuing time for parents.  This is done by simply scanning the QR code of student ID printed on the Invitation Letter to parents and the system will print out a slip consists of information such as  allocated time slot, venue and name of personal tutor.

The PTCS 2018 event was held on 21 July 2018 with a turn up of about 700 attendees comprising of parents, students and staff.  Parents of year 1 and Direct Entry to year 2 students as well as students who had failed 1 or more modules in the previous semester were invited for the event.

This event provided a platform for parents to meet and seek clarification on their child’s academic progress with the personal tutor, gain insights on their child’s course of study and learned about a myriad of opportunities for their child’s development via enhanced internship and overseas programmes. There were also 2 talks specially customized for the parents. The first talk on “Revealing EEE Experience – A Student Nurturing & Developing Initiative” was meant to share with parents on how the school curates and provides many opportunities to develop all EEE students beyond classroom learning, thereby maximizing their potential. The second talk on “Support for Students-at-Risks” was meant to share with parents the support platform available at the School of EEE to help their child cope with their academic challenges.

The event started with a talk by the course chair followed by a face-to-face consultation session with their child’s personal tutor. Parents also visited an “EEE Experience Exhibition” that showcased the authentic learning experiences gained by our students through CDIO, accomplishments by our students, the industry sectors that our EEE graduates can seek employment with and a showcase of curriculum related project exhibits done by EEE students. Each project showcased EEE students’ innovations and application of engineering knowledge and skills from each of the 6 EEE courses.  In addition, SP ECG Counsellors were also present to engage parents and students for Education and Career Guidance.
Most parents enjoyed the communication session and shared that it was both informative and engaging as they gained a better understanding of the engineering education system in Singapore Polytechnic.
