EEE Students' win at IES Innovation Challenge for Community 2018

Our heartiest congratulations to the following EEE students who had won First and Merit prizes at IES Innovation Challenge for Community 2018.

Chua Chryston and Neo Yizhe, final year students from the Diploma in Electrical & Electronic Engineering (DEEE) had clinched first prize for their project, “Dementia Patient Tracking Using Sigfox” supervised by Mr Chong Siew Ping. Their project allows a caretaker to track the movement of a dementia patient. The GPS location of the patient is read by a microcontroller and sent to the Sigfox backend server through a Sigfoxshield. A mobile app on the caretaker’s mobile phone will display the patient’s location on a Google Map. Another final year project, Therapeutic Pet Robot - Eddy that is undertaken by DEEE students, Tan Yong Ji, Ryan Tan Jun Hao and Chua Jia Wei won a merit prize. Their project is supervised by Dr Jaichandar and Dr Sampath Kumar, which intended to improve the lives of elderly dementia patients.  The pet robot Eddy can be used as an intervention tool to improve psychological (relaxation and motivation), physiological (improved vital signs) and social (stimulation of communication) skills of an elderly dementia patients.
