EEE Team SWACT emerged 1st Runner Up in Singapore BusTech Grand Challenge 2022

26 Nov 2022

EEE Team SWACT emerged as 1st Runner-Up in Singapore BusTech Grand Challenge 2022, in IHL Student category, on 26 Nov 2022, amid intense competition from 28 students from six institutions. The competition, currently into its second year, was jointly organised by the Singapore Bus Academy and the Employment and Employability Institute (e2i).

For 2022, a new category was introduced for students from the Institutes of Higher Learning (IHL) to solve one of two problem statements. Teams were challenged to either create a device to help bus technicians inspect bus undercarriages, or design a prototype to improve the testing methodology of air-conditioning system on buses.

Team SWACT designed and built a portable and smart wireless low-powered air-conditioning test kit with portable sensors. This test kit can be set-up within five minutes on any bus to measure the effectiveness of air-conditioning units operating in the bus, especially when the doors are opening and closing. This hassle-free test kit was incorporated with a smart IoT system that is re-chargeable, requires low set-up time to provide instant temperature readings, and supports quick data analysis and graph plotting. It would result in much shorter set-up and removal time; and hence improve the efficiency and productivity of the bus officers conducting the air-conditioning inspection.

Team SWACT was guided by Niu Tianfang, Peh King Sing, Isa Christopher Sherman, and How Seo Tin. Details of the winning team are as appended:
