Regional Industry Networking Conference (RINC) 2022

01 Nov 2022

The Regional Industry Networking Conference (RINC) 2022, held on 1 Nov 2022 as a hybrid event, was a huge success. As with previous RINC events, its objective was to provide a networking platform for local and regional participants, including staff and students, to exchange insights and experiences about industry trends and technological developments in the different fields of engineering. RINC 2022 was premised on the theme, Energy Sustainability and Innovation, including how technological innovation can be applied in the energy and power sectors to bring forth green and sustainable solutions for industry and community transformation.  This discussion was timely and pertinent, given DPM Lawrence Wong’s recent announcement on Singapore’s commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.

Over 1200 local and international guests comprising representatives from leading industries, institutions of higher learning and governmental agencies, and SP staff and students, attended the hybrid conference. There were over 400 participants attending the conference in person; over 100 participants at the webinars and over 700 persons viewing the event on the YouTube. Overseas participants hailed from regional countries such as Cambodia, Indonesia, Myanmar and Philippines to name a few, and even countries afar such as China, Hong Kong, India, Israel and Korea.

Guest-of-Honour, Senior Minister of State for Sustainability and the Environment, Dr Amy Khor officiated the launch ceremonies of SP-Sembcorp and SP-CHINT collaborations. Three facilities – SP-Sembcorp Solar PV Research Laboratory, Solar PV Pilot Demonstration Recycling Line in collaboration with Sembcorp and SP-CHINT Smart Electrical Power Training Laboratory were officially opened. Upon the launch, the VIPs were taken for a tour of the facilities.

Keynote speaker Mr Ngiam Shih Chun, Chief Executive of EMA, outlined Singapore’s strategy for transition to a green economy. There were two panel discussions. The first session, on Technology and Innovation; explored how technology and innovation could enhance energy sustainability. The second session, on Workforce Career Development and Training, focused on how key stakeholders such as academia, companies and government agencies could collaborate to cultivate the talent pipeline for the energy and power sectors.
