Dear alumni
It is our pleasure to bring you the fourth issue of our bi-annual EEE Alumni e-newsletter.
In this issue, we have the honour of interviewing an enterprising EEE alumni, Mr Jovan Tan, an entrepreneur and co-founder of several start-ups. We are impressed, not least, by his deep passion for sustainability and how he leverages his engineering knowledge to bring about a positive impact on the circular economy. Please read on to know more about his life journey.
As Singapore ramps up solar energy deployment, elevating the employability and marketability of our adult learners is crucial. EEE supports Singapore in its transition to a green economy. In that light, we would like to highlight a short course on solar PV in our Continuing Education and Training (CET) curriculum to enable our adult learners to acquire skills and competencies in that domain.
As an EEE alumni, you would be pleased to know that the EEE team was placed among the top 5 award winners for the Lee Hsien Loong IDM (Interactive Digital Media) Smart Nation Award, with their project “Cloud-based Wastewater Sampling System for COVID-19 Lab Tracing.” One of its key features was to use solar energy to charge the batteries of samplers – a simple yet effective way to bolster energy sustainability.
For those who attended RINC 2022 on 1 Nov 2022, we hope you enjoyed the conference. Themed “Energy Sustainability and Innovation,” it convened domain experts from leading companies, academia and government agencies to share insights into how technology and innovation could play a part in energy sustainability as well as how the talent pipeline in this area could be developed. The Zero-Energy Wellness Garden and Zero-Energy Zero Waste Urban Farming Project, showcased at SP Engineering Show and International Built Environment Week 2022 respectively, are prime examples of leveraging technology to achieve zero energy. They underpin Singapore’s commitment to achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
We are cognisant of the mutually beneficial and more effective outcomes that will spring forth when EEE collaborates with alumni and industry partners. In this regard, we have recently set up the EEE LinkedIn page for our alumni, industry partners and anyone keen on engineering and what we have to offer. We hope that you could also follow us via EEE LinkedIn for the latest EEE happenings, including job and learning opportunities, as well as networking activities.
For the upcoming year, we will be organising a series of alumni get-together events. Do look out for more details on our Telegram and we look forward to your participation at these events.
EEE always strives to keep up with the industry trends, update our courses or introduce new ones to help you, our alumni, stay relevant.
Wishing you a pleasant read,
Yours sincerely
