DEEE STUDENTS CLINCHED 1ST PRIZE AT 2018 CDIO ASIAN REGIONAL ACADEMY PROGRAMME

A project developed by DEEE students, Chua Chryston and Neo Yizhe, which allows a caretaker to track a dementia patient, won the 1st Prize at the 2018 CDIO Asian Regional Academy Programme held at Da Nang, Vietnam, on 13 Mar 2018. The patient’s GPS position is read by a microcontroller and sent to the Sigfox backend server with the use of a Sigfox shield. A mobile app, running in the care taker’s mobile phone, then accesses the information and displays the patient’s position on a Google Map.

The tracker seeks to restore autonomy to persons with dementia, allowing them to travel independently without worrying their caretakers. It also reduces the financial burdens of having to purchase expensive trackers for low income families.
