Congratulations to EEE alumnus Tan Jian Rong Edwin! Besides getting a first class honours in B Eng (EEE) at NTU, he also received the prestigious Koh Boon Hwee Scholars Award and the Professional Engineers Board Gold Medal.

Currently working as an engineer at DSO National Laboratories, Edwin graduated from SP in 2008 with a Diploma in Electrical & Electronic Engineering and went on to pursue a degree in Electrical & Electronic Engineering at NTU after his national service stint.

Working hard, striking a good balance between studies and co-curricular activities, he attributed his success to the strong foundation he gained while at SP. The concepts, knowledge and skills that he acquired through lectures, tutorials and lab sessions gave him a head start.

He also credits his lecturers at SP and honoured one of them, Mrs Lee Mei Lai. Edwin said, “Mrs Lee always simplifies complicated concepts to help us understand the subject better. Through her teaching experiences and life stories, she never failed to stress the importance of some theories and concepts which I can still relate to today.” Mrs Lee will have a $5000 cash grant established in her name to be awarded to a future NTU student from Singapore Polytechnic.

This is the second time lecturers from the School of Electrical & Electronic Engineering have has been honoured by their students at NTU. In 2010 EEE alumnus Gan Hoe Yee, also a recipient of the Koh Boon Hwee Scholars Award honoured EEE lecturer Mr Toh Ser Khoon for his inspirational teachings.
