The World Solar Challenge (WSC) has been running biennially for the last 30 years, participated by teams comprising of secondary and tertiary education institutions from all over the world. The teams need to run their solar-powered vehicles to cover the 3000+ km journey from Darwin to Adelaide through the harsh Australian outback in one of these race categories: Cruiser, Challenger, or Adventure.

SunSPEC5 took part in the Adventure category which is non-competitive and instead serves as a means to test new ideas for solar-powered transportation and to gain experience from participating in an event of this scale. For our MAE students it would be the first time being exposed to such rigour, while some MAE staff are already veterans of WSC. Find out more about the MAE SunSPEC5 team here. We are proud of their achievement, more so being the only polytechnic entrant in WSC.

Bridgestone is the main sponsor of this event and has sponsored the high-quality energy-saving tyres used by a number of the entrants, including SunSPEC5.

The latest updates can be found at the WSC Website and the WSC Facebook page.

SgCarMart was also at the scene and provided a very good coverage (and many more photos!) at the finishing.
