SP
School of Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering (MAE) has developed
strong and close partnerships with industries through successful
collaboration in R&D and industrial projects. The MAE R&D and
Consultancy Division consists of specific technology groups , funded
research projects, and consultancy projects with industries.
Roles of MAE R&D and Consultancy Division: - To provide applied R&D expertise and resources to local
industries to develop commercially solutions and products to move up the
value chain.
- To engage students in real-life application and to encourage
students to creatively apply concepts to practical problems in terms of
CDIO and applied learning frameworks.

Launching of Temasek Cares TRiC ProjectsSingapore Polytechnic (SP) will collaborate with the Agency of
Integrated Care (AIC) under a $751,000 grant from Temasek Cares on a
pilot three-year programme. Known as 'Temasek Cares –
Technology-assisted Rehabilitation in the Community (TC - TRiC)', the
programme also marks the first time that Temasek Cares is funding a
development programme that leverages on technology for the benefit of
the aging population. | |

Two SP CARE Projects Won in A&RTsThree SP CARE projects participated at the Assistive,
Rehabilitation and Therapeutic Technologies Challenge (A&RTs) on 23
March 2013 at NUS. Two of the projects won the awards. - An excellent Award was won by "Design and development of
novel robotic arm brace". The project was also short-listed to take part
in i-CREATe 2013 competition in Korea.
- The 'E-Lite Power Add-on' project was awarded the 'The Best
Prototype Award'. The project was also short-listed to take part in
Singapore's Premier Start-Up Challenge due to its commercialization
potential.

Developing Staff Expertise In Food Innovation Technology SP
was awarded Food Automation Unit (FAU) in October 2012 to automate and
increase productivity for food manufacturing companies. This is part of
the $45 million Food Manufacturing Productivity Plan launched by SPRING
Singapore in November 2011. Systems and processes are already in place
for FAU to serve SME food companies and a total of 8 sales and project
engineers have joined FAU for its operation. To-date, the unit has
secured 6 projects and reached out to 273 companies. Collaboration with
local and overseas vendors have already been established and in November
2013.
FAU organised 'A Technical Expert Series' seminar (APO-TES),
in collaboration with Asian Productivity Organisation and SPRING
Singapore. The event was well received and attended by 100 participants
from 40 companies. There were also 2 technical sharing sessions
conducted in collaboration with Taiwan and Japan food company to provide
insight into food manufacturing automation. A FAU own product,
Multi-layered Processing Machine (MLP), was design and developed by FAU
team. The machine was exhibited at the 2013 Food Productivity Conference
and 2014 SP Engineering Show. |

iCollect won Gold Award at SiTF Award The
'iCollect' jointly developed by NEC, Walta and SP (MAE) for Immigration
& Checkpoints Authority (ICA) won the gold award in the
E-Government category at the 2013 Singapore infocomm Technology
Federation (SiTF) Award.
