Principal and CEO’s Message

Congratulations to the Graduates of 2015!

Today marks the successful completion of your three-year learning journey with Singapore’s first polytechnic. Being a part of this year's graduating cohort, you will find it uniquely memorable since it coincides with the country's 50th birthday celebration. It also signifies a major turning point where you will embark on a new journey to becoming a responsible citizen who can contribute to Singapore's continued progress and success in the coming decades.

I believe Singapore Polytechnic (SP) has given you a greater sense of purpose, and clarity on your potential and career path over the past years. Besides gaining industry relevant skills and knowledge, many of you would also have developed soft skills and good values through your active participation in CCAs and meaningful community service. All this should help give you a head start in life after poly education, whether you are starting your job in the corporate world or pursuing a university degree.

Moving on, I would like to encourage you to have an insatiable appetite for knowledge and make continuous learning your lifelong goal. Only then can you be a living testament to our SP vision of an inspired learner who serves with mastery in every environment you are in. Taking a leaf out of the speech by founding Prime Minister, the late Mr Lee Kuan Yew when he opened SP’s Dover campus on 7 July 1979, I quote, "The never ending search of new knowledge, new skills and the perfection of old skills is what ensure that we progress."

As you join the over 184,000-strong SP alumni network, take a moment to reflect on your achievements and ask yourself how you can build on the strong foundation laid by our pioneer generations, to create a more sustainable and liveable city for our future generations.

Once again, my heartiest congratulations to you, the SP graduate, who is life-ready, work-ready and world-ready. You are now our alumni and our pride. Your lecturers and I wish you all the best in your future endeavours.
