Karena Yeo and Jarrell Ng make Top 20 on Mediacorp Channel 8's "SPOP SING!"

Mediacorp's "SPOP SING!" is an initiative to showcase and curate local music compositions, and to discover the next voice which may put Singapore on the Mandopop map.

Karena Yeo (DMAT alumnus) and Jarrell Ng (current student) have gotten into the Top 20, and they were recently featured on the programme's "This or That" interview segment.

Falling Feathers featured on ST Sessions

From the ST Sessions article:

He might be a rising name in the home-grown music scene, but pop singer Falling Feathers is already developing a global outlook.

"When I started Falling Feathers, I wanted to make music that people recognised as something that could be on the top 10 of the Billboard charts," says the 22-year-old, whose real name is JJ Ong.

"We're going to South Korea in October and, hopefully, to other countries to share Singaporean music with locals there and work together with indie bands in that country to sort of have an exchange, so they can bring their music here and we can take our music there

Axel Brizzy shares his thoughts on his new EP, The Prologue, with Juice: "I feel like I finally found a particular sound that’s mine, distinctly mine. I’ve just come into my own and see the bigger picture. Now, I’m able to express myself properly. Besides that, I’m just very proud of myself for the honesty of the songs in The Prologue. NEKO Highway's debut single enters Global Chinese Golden Chart at 5th position, receives airplay on UFM 100.3

"We just received news that our debut single, "跳舞的貓" (Dancing Cat), has entered the Global Chinese Golden Chart! Together with the world’s 12 biggest Chinese radio stations, the Global Chinese Golden Chart is founded with Taiwan as the main base, reaching out to the Chinese from all over the world. UFM 100.3 will broadcast some of the songs that are in the charts tonight at 7:30pm!

Perk Pietrek’s single appears on "Dynasty"

"Local producer Perk Pietrek seems to have an uncanny knack for knowing how to soundtrack American television programs. Late last year, his explosively percussive single “Busy Gyal” was featured on the crime franchise Queen of the South. Now, the battering club-ready track has made the rounds on Dynasty, a reboot of the 1980s primetime soap opera by The TW Television Network. The song aired on episode 13 – the most recent instalment – of the show, which is currently in its first season."

Evan Low featured on Straits Times Lifestyle

"Evanturetime made his debut as a solo electronic artist only a year ago, when he released his first single, Vultures. He has worked with acts that range from American hitmaker David Foster to some of the home-grown indie scene's most prominent names, such as singer-songwriter Inch Chua.

Low, who first took piano lessons at the age of five, graduated from Singapore Polytechnic with a Diploma in Music and Audio Technology, honed his skills at famed American music school Berklee College of Music, thanks to scholarships from the school as well as the Media Development Authority."

Perk Pietrek’s single appears on "Queen of the South"

Perk Pietrek is on a roll. Just after the release of his new EP +65 Remix Vol. 1, which features his dance floor-crushing remixes of songs by local artists including Vandetta and Ffion, the local DJ-producer and beatsmith can boast that his 2016 single “Busy Gyal” which was released on Far East Movement‘s label brednbutter, was recently used in an episode of the American crime series Queen of the South.

The episode in question is the ninth of the second season. According to TV analysis platform Showbuzz Daily, 1.02 million people watched it when it aired."

DMAT students won "Best Composition" at National Schools Xinyao Singing and Songwriting Competition 2017

National Schools Xinyao Singing and Songwriting Competition 2017
At the National Schools Xinyao Singing and Songwriting Competition 2017, Wayne Oh and Jeremy Hwang took home the "Best Composition" award with their song, "Unforgettable Past", which was performed by Brandon Ling.

Guest of honour Mr Ng Chee Meng, Minister for Education (Schools), presented the prizes.

He said in Mandarin: "The standard of tonight's xinyao student performers was very high and I'm full of awe. I feel that singing xinyao, writing xinyao, and listening to xinyao can attract more students to learning Mandarin. It is a valuable cultural resource for Singapore."

Falling Feathers signs with Warner Music and unleashes 'Hush' on MTV Asia

Falling Feathers is on the double with good news, as he announces a signed partnership with Warner Music as well as a new music video on MTV Asia to promote his new single, "Hush".

In a Juice interview, Falling Feathers revealed that “Hush” was a collaborative effort with Zie from DIsco Hue:

"We were both enrolled in Singapore Polytechnic’s Diploma in Music & Audio Technology program and he was older than me. I spent quite a bit of time with Zie working on synth sounds. Working with a fellow musician from the local community was really fun. This was my first collaboration and the process of bouncing ideas off each other was just so exciting and eye-opening."

Straits Times Lifestyle spoke to Supersect and Subsonic Eye for their upcoming performances at Baybeats and Ignite! Music Festival.

Supersect: "As kids, we all went to Baybeats thinking 'I want to play on that stage someday’. We were inspired by the bands that we saw at Baybeats and now it's our turn to inspire others. It's like coming full circle."

Subsonic Eye: "People (from all over the world) are discovering our songs online and we want to play live for them."

Supersect will play at Baybeats, while Subsonic Eye will play at both Baybeats and Ignite! Music Festival.

The Noise Singapore Award is a grant of $5,000 for top young artists selected from Noise Singapore’s mentorship programmes. The award grant will help the winners, who have been chosen by a panel of mentors-judges, to realise arts projects that they have always wanted to embark on and take their creative development to another level. Sng Ye Min clinches "Best Original Music" at National Youth Film Awards 2017

National Youth Film Awards 2017
