In the school of MAE, we believe strongly that industrial training is an integral part of engineering education. By integrating our students into industrial organizations will enable them to receive first-hand experiences in the actual working environment.

In this fast changing pace of globalization, it is critical for students to be exposed to world-wide industry partners of our nation. MAE Overseas Industrial Attachment (OIA) provides such an avenue for students to gain insights into the operations of multinational corporations. Through this programme, participants will have the opportunity to be immersed in a foreign setting and culture requiring them to exercise their initiative and learn from observation. From such a process, they will pick up important life skills outside the classroom, develop their leadership qualities and learn to be a good team player.

Participating organisations in China include Pratt & Whitney ( Beijing), AMECO Beijing, First Automobile Works ( Changchun), China University of Science and Technology (CUST, Taiwan).

Pratt & Whitney ( Beijing )

Firstly, I would like to thank Singapore Polytechnic for granting me the great honor to go to Pratt & Whitney for my overseas ITP. Without the generous offer and grant, I doubt that I would ever have the opportunity to experience and learn with the world leader in the design, manufacture and service of aircraft engines, industrial gas turbines and space propulsion systems. I was full of anticipation and excitement as being an aeronautical engineering student, aircrafts are my passion. Being able to touch and learn in detail about an actual aircraft engine had me sitting on the edge of my seat every time I think about it. The knowledge and experience that I have accumulated in these 6 weeks is something that I will always remember and be able to apply in my future career in aviation.

First Automobile Works Corporation ( Chang Chun )

I was attached to First Automobile Works Corporation (FAW) for my internship. Initially I felt very anxious and worried just by thinking about working there and being a foreigner. However, we were greeted with smiles and the way they treated us makes us feel very much welcomed. The supervisor was very friendly and the staffs were very helpful. We learned a lot of things in FAW.

We were exposed to real life applications by witnessing how wonderful automated machines operated in the assembly of trucks, performing manual maintenance of machine parts, dismantling of components, die stamping and many more. I have met a lot of new people and made quite a number of friends in this journey. I shared wonderful time with my peers and this great experience will be the most memorable and meaningful event in my SP life.
