Introduction
Singapore strives to become a “Smart Nation” through harnessing digital technologies to provide better transport systems, living environment, business productivity, healthcare and public sector services for all Singapore residents. To build
a smart nation, computer network and systems are key infrastructure facilities for smart healthcare, smart building, smart mobility, smart Energy and many other areas.
Besides transforming our country into a “Smart Nation”, Singapore has also embraced Industry 4.0 (referred to as “Advanced Manufacturing” in Singapore), and is moving its industrial base up the value chain to strengthen its position
as the leading industrial hub for companies worldwide. Advanced Manufacturing technologies are redefining manufacturing on a global scale. Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and Automation are two main sectors to develop for smart factory with computer
network and systems.
To meet this increasing demand for IT Network and System engineers, the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering offers the Diploma in Engineering (Computer Network and Systems), abbreviated as DECNS. This course covers the essential technical
skills in supporting the “Smart Nation” and “Advanced Manufacturing” drives of Singapore. This part-time evening course can be completed in 2.5 years.
Please visit the DECNS Facebook page for more information about the course, the modules, lab facilities, the relevant technologies, and the latest trend.
Participants are required to bring along their personal computer notebook when attending lessons, as they may need it to access e-learning materials, run simulation and virtualisation software, write reports, etc.
Course Objectives
This course aims to equip students with good working knowledge and skills required for the deployment, operation and support of computer networks infrastructure, development of info-comm services, computer/embedded systems and IoT systems. The modules
have been carefully selected to cover the technical skills and knowledge highly in-demand for career in IT networks and systems industry.

Suitable for
This course is specially designed for engineers, assistant engineers, technicians, technical supervisors and other personnel, who are seeking to better prepare themselves with the necessary technical skills and knowledge in managing IT network and developing
computer systems. This course is also suitable for people who intend to make a conversion to these technical areas in their career pursuit. With the skills and knowledge gained from this course, you will be able to take on the challenges in the IT
industry.
