Introduction
Singapore is moving towards the vision of becoming the world’s first smart nation. One of Singapore’s 5 growth clusters of the future will be in the area of Smart and Sustainable Urban Solutions. This creates many opportunities for the acquiring and applying of technical skills and expertise in this area.
Infocomm Media Development Authority of Singapore (IMDA) is developing their Smart Nation Platform, which is very much technology-focused. Together with enterprises, IDA highlighted the need for developers that can create value in the building of smart city applications and services.
Potential manpower demand for smart city development roles are:
- Operators of smart city infrastructure and systems
- Developers of smart city applications and services
- Consultants to local and regional projects
To build a smart city, digital technologies like Internet of things, smart mobile applications, cloud computing, low powered wireless communications and big data analytics are all critical building blocks. This course aims to train working IT and Engineering professionals in these important areas of these technologies.
Participants are required to bring computer Notebook to when attending lessons, as you may need it to access the e-learning materials, writing reports, etc.
Course Objectives
This course aims to provide adult learners with the knowledge and skills of using digital technologies for the development of services and applications related to smart city. It will also expose them to emerging technologies like 5G, IoT, AI and High Performance Computing.
This course provides an understanding of systems and services aspects of a smart city deployment. Topics covered include Smart City architecture, networking and security. Students will also gain hands-on experience in deploying a cloud infrastructure and service, running data analytics tools that are able to analyse and visualise data from sensors used in smart city platforms.
Participants will learn to:
- Understand the principles and concepts of smart city technologies and deployments
- Acquire skills in smart mobile and embedded application, cloud and data analytics services development
- Integrate developmental skills to solve a real-world problem related to smart city
